On-Site Nursing Skills and Immersive Simulation Experiences

As an ABSN student, you’ll attend a series of nursing skills labs and Immersive Simulation experiences at one of our four learning sites. During these hands-on activities, our instructors will teach you how to safely and effectively put the core concepts you learned online into practice.

Nursing Skills Lab

Our on-site skills lab features advanced equipment, medical supplies and medical manikins so you can learn and practice core clinical skills in a contextual setting without the fear of harming an actual patient.

For example, you’ll learn how to perform:

  • Catheter insertions
  • Intramuscular injections
  • IV placements
  • NG tube insertions
  • Wound care

When it comes to developing applied nursing skills, it’s important to remember that mistakes happen. Our instructors view errors as valuable learning opportunities. Just be sure to take advantage of our open lab hours to practice and hone your nursing skills.

Immersive Simulation Experiences

Nursing simulation gets you as close as possible to real-life clinical situations. Immersive Simulation is staged to look and function like an actual hospital room. Standardized patients and mid/high-fidelity manikins are used within the scenarios to create dynamic real-world situations for the students.

These realistic immersive experiences take your clinical competency to the next level, focusing on problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills. Our instructors get to see how well you integrate theory with practice while making clinical decisions in real-time.

Furthermore, simulation also exposes you to high-pressure critical care situations that may not be available through clinicals (e.g., a patient in cardiac arrest).

Following each simulation, you’ll participate in a debriefing session with your instructor and classmates to discuss the experience—the key learning component of the exercise. It’s a chance for everyone to reflect on the experience in an open, honest setting. We want to understand your clinical approach and be able to provide relevant feedback.
